Ever drive home and suddenly remember something you forgot to do? 🤯

Hi there,

I recently asked you all on YouTube what you struggle with most as a manager, and over a third of respondents said the same thing: following up with your team consistently.

I think we've all been there - that point where you're driving home after a long day and suddenly have that ‘oh gosh moment’ when you remember something you planned to follow up on. And you didn't do it.

That little spike of stress. That frustration with yourself. That guilt.

And then you get home, and obviously life takes over, and by tomorrow… you've forgotten again.

I find it’s easy to berate ourselves saying, "I'm so disorganised” or “I've got such a bad memory" but actually, what we're all trying to do in this situation is just keep too much in our head.

And there's a cost to that.

Your team notices when you don't follow up. Accountability starts to slide. They think, "Maybe this doesn't really matter."Or worse, "My manager doesn't actually care."

And you? You miss those golden coaching moments, the ones where you could have helped someone solve a problem, build confidence, or do their job better.

So here's the good news: you don't need a better memory. You just need a better system.

In this week's video, I walk you through exactly how to build it. It's simple. It's practical. And it actually works.

Here's what you'll find out:

✅ Why keeping follow-ups in your head (or scribbled in a notebook) is setting you up to fail

✅ The simple system top managers use to stay on top of everything

✅ The one tool that makes follow-up automatic (and it's not complicated)

✅ How this approach makes performance reviews 10x easier and helps you spot patterns in your team

This isn't just about remembering what you said. It's about building trust, accountability, and momentum with your team. It's about becoming the kind of leader people actually want to work for.

Watch the video here.

And if you want help setting this up, I've put together a free One-to-One Toolkit with templates, prompts, and a step-by-step guide to help you set this up. You can grab it here.

Getting this moment right is so valuable for managers. It helps manage the balance between fear of micromanaging and ensuring you have an accountable team. Which in turn I find helps people feel so much more confident in their role as a leader of a team. So, it's worth checking out.

That's it for this week. If you have any questions, just hit reply. I'm here at the other end.

Have a great week!

Helen

Hi there, I've been thinking about what matters most for managers right now, and I keep coming back to one thing: coaching. I know there's a lot competing for your attention, AI is coming like a train though the world of work, meanwhile you need to make sure they year end goals are hit. All of that matters. But if I had to choose where to put my energy right now, it would be coaching. Because in a world that's uncertain, relentless, and fast-paced, your ability to connect with people and have...

Hello, I've been thinking a lot lately about how wrong we can be about people, and how wrong they can be about us. In 2019, I broke my hip during an exercise class. One minute I was doing lunges, the next I had this shooting pain down my leg. For two weeks, I convinced myself it was just a pulled muscle. I mean, I hadn't fallen over or done anything dramatic, it couldn't possibly be broken, could it? Turns out, assumptions work both ways. When I finally got to A&E, the doctor decided I must...
